Cast and crew members of the Norwegian feature film “Kon-Tiki” insisted they weren’t disappointed that the film failed to win a “Golden Globe” award at the major film awards ceremony in Hollywood on Sunday. They claimed they were just happy to be nominated.
“We took it with a smile,” Petter Skavlan, who wrote the script for Kon-Tiki, told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) after the ceremony. “We were very relaxed about this. I wasn’t very surprised that Amour won. Regardless, we were in second place and sometimes that’s just fine.”
The highly acclaimed Austrian film Amour is also one of Kon-Tiki’s rivals in the Oscar race, where they’re also both nominated for best foreign film. Skavlan noted that Amour is also nominated in other categories for the Academy Awards that will be announced next month, so Kon-Tiki might have a better chance to win as best foreign-language film. Others, however, think Amour is also the favourite to win the Oscar.
Skavlan, Kon-Tiki directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, and Kon-Tiki star Pål Sverre Hagen, who plays the film’s main character Thor Heyerdahl, were all on hand at the Golden Globe ceremony along with some of the film’s other cast and crew. They’re expected to be in Los Angeles next month, too, for the Oscar ceremony.
1. They said they came in second place?! That's great. I didn't know they'd know their rank re these awards.
2. I was beginning to second guess myself after I saw them in the background on the red carpet yesterday afternoon, within the first couple seconds after E! started broadcasting. I never saw them again. I am glad this article confirmed their presence. It's pretty hard to miss Pal Sverre Hagen's height, though.
