Stellan Skarsgard To Exec Produce English-Language Post-WWII Drama

Swedish star Stellan Skarsgard (“Nymphomaniac”) is set to exec produce an English-language feature film adaptation of late journo Stig Dagerman’s “German Autumn” (Tysk Host).

“Autumn” comprises a series of articles Dagerman penned while in Germany in the aftermath of WWII, shining a light on the suffering that war brought upon the civilian population.
Viken Prods., which is ran by Megan Everett-Skarsgard, the thesp’s wife, has optioned the rights to the book from Dagerman’s estate.
“We are extremely proud to work with such an important collection of war journalism, and to take on the daunting task of bringing the ideas of such a treasured Swedish writer to a larger international audience,” said Everett-Skarsgard.
Project is currently in development.
Skarsgard is one of Scandinavia’s best-known thesps. His acting career spans 40 years and is marked by his collaboration with Lars Von Trier, most recently on “Melancholia” (which also featured son Alexander Skarsgard) and the upcoming “Nymphomaniac.” He’s also starred in many U.S. pics, such as “The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo.”
Skarsgard previously exec produced “Kings Of Devil’s Island,” a winner of various local awards and an international sales success.
Other films adaptations of Dagerman’s work include the docu “L’Automne Allemand ‘46” and the shorts “To Kill A Child,” “Our Need for Consolation” and “The Games of Night.”
